Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet revealed that he received an incredible text message from Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby after they traded for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor
Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has gotten busy by making two blockbuster trades in the same night over the past weekend, one of which highlighted by acquiring 28-year-old puck moving defenseman Marcus Pettersson.

Since the start of the 2024-2025 season, it was clear by fans, media and the Canucks themselves that they were in desperate need of an upgrade on defense.
After months of trade speculation and different players being linked to the Canucks, they finally found their upgrade by trading away big d-man Vincent Desharnais, Danton Heinen and a 1st-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Danton Heinen, defenceman Vincent Desharnais, the rights to forward Melvin Fernström and a conditional first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft (acquired from New York Rangers).
According to Sportsnet 650, Rick Tocchet told the media that Penguins captain Sidney Crosby sent him a incredible text message highlighting the type of players and people Pettersson and O'Connor are and how they will help the Canucks moving forward.
Rick Tocchet says he got a text message from Sidney Crosby saying that the Canucks got good players & teammates in picking up Marcus Pettersson & Drew O'Connor, and specifically praised M. Pettersson's leadership.
It may be strange to hear a player sending a text to a coach about a player, but many forget that Rick Tocchet served as the assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins for 3 seasons form 2014-2017.
Most notably, he was apart of the Penguins' 2 Stanley Cup winning teams in 2016 and 2017.
Cleary Crosby and Tocchet had a great relationship and wanted to inform his former coach on the type of talent and men he will get the pleasure of coaching.
Hopefully, Tocchet has some good things to say about Vincent Desharnais....
