Suspension Incoming - Tyler Myers Receives Automatic Hearing with Department of Player Safety for Dirty Play
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers are set to have hearings with the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers wrapped up Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday and it was a rough contest to say the least, especially in the third period which led two a pair of match penalties.
With just seconds remaining on the clock in the final frame, the Edmonton Oilers were pressing hard for an equalizer, but fell short and now may be without their captain for upcoming games.
Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers set for hearings with NHL Player Safety
Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Vancouver Canucks forward
Conor Garland were tied up in the Canucks' zone which led to some frustration from Edmonton's star.
After the two got untangled, McDavid delivered a cross-check to the head of Conor Garland, which drew the attention of everyone on the ice, leading to a big scrum.
McDavid was quickly ushered away by the officials and handed a match penalty for cross-checking, which is automatically subject to review by the National Hockey League and the Department of Player Safety.
As expected, Connor McDavid will be having a hearing with Player Safety and given that it's over the phone, the maximum his suspension could be is five games.
Connor McDavid isn't the only player on the ice who is facing down a potential suspension as Tyler Myers has also been summoned for a hearing with NHL Player Safety.
During the same scrum at the end of the third period, Myers was away from the main group with Oilers defenseman
Evan Bouchard where he cross-checked him in the face, leading to, yes you guessed it, a match penalty.
The National Hockey League confirmed on Sunday morning that Tyler Myers will have a hearing for his cross-check on Evan Bouchard, but a date and time have yet to be determined.
We'll have to wait for the outcome of Tyler Myers' hearing, but it's a given that the blueliner will be suspended, for how long, we don't know just yet.
With Tyler Myers likely suspended and uncertainty surrounding
Noah Juulsen due to an undisclosed injury, there's a good chance that Patrik Allvin will need to call up a defenseman from Abbotsford in time for Tuesday's game against the Buffalo Sabres.
