Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared some news on Saturday night regarding the Vancouver Canucks issuing a warning to other teams around the league.

Tampering has become an big issue in the National Hockey League, especially just before the free agency window opens.
Some teams will attempt to reach out between the end of the NHL Entry Draft and July 1st to talk to an unrestricted free agent about a potential deal, but that's not allowed given that standard player contracts run until June 30th.
While tampering might be more common around free agency, it does happen during the season when teams attempt to speak to a player on the trade block without approval, which has frustrated the Vancouver Canucks.

Elliotte Friedman says Vancouver Canucks issued warning about tampering

During the Saturday Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman gave multiple updates on the Vancouver Canucks and one of them was pretty eye-opening.
Friedman reported that the Vancouver Canucks issued a warning to other teams around the league about tampering, but does believe that some of those clubs now have permission to speak with J.T. Miller, who was almost dealt to the New York Rangers earlier on Saturday.
"Elsewhere around the Canucks. Earlier this week, the Canucks sent out a note warning teams about tampering. Saying that, looking nobody is allowed to talk to any of players without our permission in advance." Friedman said.

He added, "I believe now at this time, some teams do have permission to talk to Miller. Not sure who it is, but I've hear there are some teams that have been granted permission to him."

This is becoming an issue that will certainly be talked about in the coming weeks when the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players Association meet to discuss the next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The most ideal solution, mainly when it comes to free agency, is to possibly allow free agents to speak with teams before the window opens, but only for 24 hours prior to July 1st. Any earlier would result in a heavy fine for the team that attempts to contact the pending free agent.
Lots of work needs to be done on that front and hopefully a solution can be found in CBA talks between the league and the Players Association.
