New information has come to light that is now putting general manager Chris Drury and the New York Rangers in some hot water after their are now serious allegations about tampering regarding the acquisition of J.T. Miller in a trade with Vancouver Canucks.
The New York Rangers must be pleased with themselves as they were able to solidify a blockbuster deal to acquire J.T. Miller without having to give up some major of assets or players.
But now, they may be facing some some tampering allegations that could have some serious implications and consequences if true.
Are the New York Rangers in trouble with the NHL after tampering allegations regrading J.T. Miller?
But, the hammer could be dropped on the Rangers after it has been revealed that they may have broken the NHL's tampering rules to get Miller.
First it is important to not the history between Miller and new teammate
Vincent Trocheck.
Miller and Trocheck have been best friends ever since childhood and always had the dream to one to play with one another on t he same team in the NHL.
Peter Baugh of the Athletic reported that Vincent Trocheck and Miller's wives met up with one another less than a month ago and were actively outspoken in pushing the players to make the deal happen, which in turn could be the reason Miller waived his no-trade clause to go to the Rangers.
"A little less than a month ago, Hillary Trocheck surprised Natalie Miller for her birthday, flying across North America for a surprise visit in Vancouver.
Both their husbands, Vincent Trocheck and J.T. Miller, were on hockey road trips for the Rangers and Canucks, respectively, and the wives reached out.
«The two of them, they were pushing us: 'Oh you guys have got to get this trade done!'» Vincent Trocheck said. «We're like, 'We don't have any say.'"
Obviously this is a grey area whare the league most likely will not be able to prove that the team had any involvement in pushing Trocheck or his wife to get Miller to waive his no-move.
But, if Trocheck was encouraged by the team to use relationship with Miller to get him to waive it, this could be easily seen as tampering,
The NHL has punished team for similar actions.
