Vancouver Canucks prospect Vilmer Alriksson has had a strong season so far in the Ontario Hockey League, putting up 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 26 games for the Guelph Storm.
But with the Storm sitting dead-last in the Western Conference and second-last in the entire OHL standings, the team has begun selling ahead of the trade deadline in early January.
In a social media post this morning, the Guelph Storm announced that they've traded Vilmer Alriksson to the Brampton Steelheads in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2025 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick.
Alriksson is now joining a Steelheads team that's loaded with talent including projected top-ten pick Porter Martone, Seattle Kraken prospect Carson Rehkopf, and goaltender Jack Ivankovic, who's expected to be one of the first netminders taken at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
While the Steelheads have all this talent, they've massively underperformed up to this point in the season and currently sit eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 14-12-4 record, ten points back of the Barrie Colts who lead both the conference and the Central Division.
Alriksson, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, was selected in the fourth-round, 107th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
After a solid season with Guelph in 2023-24 and a strong training camp, the Vancouver Canucks decided to sign Alriksson to his entry-level contract.
The 19-year-old is expected to make the jump to the professional ranks for the 2025-26 season and will likely start the year in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford.
