The Vancouver Canucks kicked off their five-game road trip last night against the Vegas Golden Knights and it featured a special moment for forward Kiefer Sherwood.

Kiefer Sherwood has been on a tear this year in the hit department and he even broke Luke Schenn's franchise record for most hits in a single season in Vancouver Canucks franchise history earlier this month.

Vancouver Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood breaks NHL record

During last night's game in Vegas, Kiefer Sherwood recorded a whopping nine hits to bring his season total to 303 in just 52 games with the Vancouver Canucks.
In doing so, Kiefer Sherwood set a new National Hockey League record by being the fastest player to 300 hits in a single season (52 games), passing the previous mark of 59 games, which was set by former Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki during the 2016-17 campaign.
"#Canucks Kiefer Sherwood is the fastest player in NHL history to record 300 hits in a season (52 GP)

Record was previously held by the Senators Mark Borowiecki in 2016-17 (59 GP)" Sportsnet Stats said in a social media post.
Sherwood, 29, has been solid for the Vancouver Canucks this season and has exceeded expectations in terms of production and his physicality that he brings after signing a two-year deal with $1.5 million AAV on July 1st.
In 52 games this season, Sherwood has registered 23 points (13 goals - new career-high, ten assists), 22 penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
Next up for Kiefer Sherwood will be to break the National Hockey League record for hits in a single season, which is currently 383, set by Nashville Predators blueliner Jeremy Lauzon in 2023-24.
The Columbus, Ohio native will need to average 3.11 hits per game over Vancouver's final 26 contests of the regular season to break the Jeremy Lauzon's NHL record.
It's safe to say he'll be able to smash that mark well before Vancouver's regular season finale on April 16th against Vegas and it'll be interesting to see if he can reach 400 hits.
