Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko's days with the Vancouver Canucks could be officially numbered with the recent contract extension of Kevin Lankinen.

Thatcher Demko has had a very difficult road that last 12 months, dealing with a potentially career ending knee injury and then eventually returning to play with a production output that has been disappointing to say the least.
Now, his days with the team could be numbered...

Is this it for Thatcher Demko amid contract extension to Kevin Lankinen?

With highs and lows this season, Demko finds himself riding another low wave as bad news was announced Tuesday that the 29-year-old netminder will be missing even more time with injury.
Officially being considered week-to-week...
"Thatcher Demko (lower body) won't be making the upcoming road trip with the team, will be reevaluated when the #Canucks return from Seattle next weekend.

It's not the knee. Officially 'week-to-week', per team spokesperson." Drance said in a post on X.
Now, it could seem like his days may be dwindling down as the Canucks surprise star Kevin Lankinen singed a 5-year contract extension worth $22.5 million USD ($4.5 million AAV)
"Kevin has done a great job for us in net this season," said Allvin. "Right from the start of the year, he has shown a strong desire to compete and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win hockey games. A good leader and teammate, we wouldn't be in the position we are in right now without his strong play."

But what is going to happen to Demko?
Cleary with this signing the Canucks have put their faith into Lankinen to be their #1 starter for the future.
The main issue is that Demko will not be able to dins himself on another team if he wants to push for a starter spot as their are not many clubs with the cap space to acquire him.
Only the Florida Panthers ($14.5M), New York Islanders ($11M), and Tampa Bay Lightning ($10.28M) have them beat, while the New York Rangers will join that list when Igor Shesterkin's new $11.5 million contract kicks in. - Daily Hive

The thing is, they can try and move him or keep him for another year, but at this point, it is just delaying the obvious.
