Back in 2019, the Canucks used one of their two seventh-round picks to selected Aidan McDonough from the USHL and after four years in the NCAA with Northeastern University, Patrik Allvin did all he could to persuade him to sign with the organization, which the forward ended up doing.
The 24-year-old McDonough spent the majority of the year in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford, but also appeared in a handful of games with Vancouver, scoring his first career NHL goal in late March against the Calgary Flames.
Despite a pretty good rookie campaign in the AHL, the Canucks have decided that they'll be moving on from Aidan McDonough this weekend.
According to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali, the Vancouver Canucks will not be issuing a qualifying offer to Aidan McDonough, which will make him an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day and able to sign with any of the 31 other teams around the National Hockey League.
The Milton, Massachusetts native appeared in 58 AHL games for Abbotsford where he put up 19 points (11 goals, eight assists), ten penalty minutes and was a plus-two.
For the most part, Abbotsford's roster is set for the 2024-25 season, but with players down there ready to make the jump to the NHL, it wouldn't be a surprise if Patrik Allvin seeks out some depth options for Manny Malhotra and the coaching staff.
