Just over a week ago, Ty Young was called up to the Vancouver Canucks without even making an AHL start.
The call up was purely a paper transaction, but still came to surprise to many as Ty Young has spent the entirety of his young professional career in the East Coast Hockey League.
With a lack of room for him at the AHL level, Ty Young was sent down to start the year with the ECHL Kalamazoo Wings, but it was very noticeable that he belonged with Abbotsford.
With his short call up to the Vancouver Canucks, he was still able to practice and train with the team while Arturs Silovs was sent down for a rehab start.
When Ty Young was eventually sent down, he did not go back to the ECHL but finally go his chance to stick in Abbotsford where he belongs as Jiri Patera is still on Injured reserve.
It is clear that practice with the big club did him good as he finally got to get his first win as a member of the Abbotsford Canucks.
Young stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced in the 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors.
Now, in two games this season in the American Hockey League, Young is 1-1-0 and has stopped 51 of 57 shots faced.
The 20-year-old, 6'3 netminder was drafted by the Canucks 144th overall in 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
He heard his named called after playing with the WHL Prince George Cougars, finishing his junior career with a 44-35-8 record.
Young is touted as the Vancouver Canucks next bug thing between the pipes.
