Vancouver Canucks goaltending prospect Ty Young reached an impressive milestone on Saturday night while suiting up for the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings.
Ty Young has been up and down between the American Hockey League and the ECHL and been down in the latter after being assigned to Kalamazoo by the Vancouver Canucks in early January.
Vancouver Canucks goaltending prospect Ty Young has milestone night in ECHL
On Saturday night, Vancouver's ECHL club in Kalamazoo, Michigan were hosting the Iowa Heartlanders, who are the affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Ty Young got the nod between the pipes.
Kalamazoo has had a tough season so far and currently sit 14th in the Western Conference, but rookie netminder Ty Young has been a bright spot for the club.
Young, a native of Coaldale, Alberta, stopped all 30 shots he faced against the Heartlanders last night to record his first shutout of his professional hockey career, while being named first star of the game.
"Congratulations to Ty Young on his first pro shutout tonight! @Canucks" the Kalamazoo Wings said in a social media post.
"Today's WOW One Day Painting ⭐️ of the Game: Ty Young!"
Not only was that Young's first shutout of his professional hockey career, he now leads all under-24 netminders in the ECHL with a save percentage of .926.
"Ty Young stopped all 30 shots faced tonight, recording his first career professional shutout.
His .926 save percentage through 15 games leads all U24 netminders in the ECHL. #Canucks" Dave Hall of Canucks Army said.
In 15 games with Kalamazoo, the 20-year-old netminder has a record of 7-6-1 with a 2.44 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and one shutout.
Between Ty Young, Arturs Silovs and Nikita Tolopilo, the Vancouver Canucks are set up nicely for the future in the crease and it could lead to some difficult situations down the road.
