Vancouver Canucks Reportedly Closer Than Ever to Upgrading Their Top-4 Defense
The Vancouver Canucks reportedly have a new area of need on their rosters according to a pair of NHL insiders on Tuesday.
For what feels like months now, the Vancouver Canucks have been searching for a top-four defenseman to add to their NHL roster, with a number of players being linked to the club.
Among one of the top targets for the Vancouver Canucks on the blue line is Marcus Pettersson of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who was reportedly made available for trade by Kyle Dubas last month.
While there's no doubt that the Vancouver Canucks would still like to add a top-four defenseman at some point, the club reportedly has their eyes on another area of need.
Vancouver Canucks reportedly targeting wingers on NHL's trade market
On Tuesday, TSN's Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger shared that that the Vancouver Canucks are looking for help on the wing, in addition to a top-four defenseman.
"I can be specific to saying top-four defense and now a winger. Dreger said on Sekeres & Price. "For a good chunk of this year, they felt like it was probably going to be a centreman, like a 3C, but that need, that want, has shifted now to a winger."
During the early edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun said, "A top need has been identified, a top-four [defenseman], that's certainly the top item for the Vancouver Canucks but also a winger."
Some potential options for the Vancouver Canucks are Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers, Chicago's Taylor Hall, Anaheim's Frank Vatrano and Drew O'Connor of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
With the National Hockey League's trade deadline only 80 days, expect the Vancouver Canucks to be active in trying to bring some help to British Columbia as the team looks towards a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs next spring.
