was set to travel to Boston for the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game, but it appears that the Vancouver Canucks didn't want that to happen.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Team USA was going to add Quinn Hughes to their roster following an injury to Charlie McAvoy, however that couldn't happen as they still had six healthy defensemen.

Vancouver Canucks reportedly didn't want Quinn Hughes to travel to 4 Nations Face-Off

Team USA was holding out hope that Quinn Hughes would still travel to Boston as a potential replacement player in case someone else got hurt or sick, but he was not medically cleared to go, ending any chance of him being with the team for the championship game.
According to Chris Johnston and Michael Russo, the Vancouver Canucks didn't want Quinn Hughes to travel across the continent for the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game, whether he could play or not.
"While Hughes was willing to come to Boston even if he couldn't play just to support his American teammates, including brother Jack Hughes, it's clear the Canucks didn't want Hughes to fly across the continent..." Johnston and Russo said.
While USA Hockey is likely disappointed in the decision from Quinn Hughes and the Vancouver Canucks, it's a smart one from the organization.
Vancouver is currently in the thick of the wild card race in the Western Conference and can't afford to have their captain miss anymore time due to injury.
Quinn Hughes hasn't played since January 31st against the Dallas Stars due to an injury, which is reportedly relating to his oblique.
If Hughes were to go to the championship game, would have to fly to Boston from Vancouver and then back West to meet the team in Las Vegas, where they play in a little over 48 hours, which wouldn't be a smart move from either party.
The Vancouver Canucks will be back in action on Saturday to kick off a five-game road trip in Vegas against the Golden Knights, with puck drop on Hockey Night in Canada set for 7 pm PT.
