Elias Pettersson's play over the last 12 months isn't acceptable, however a recent video may have revealed an injury to the Vancouver Canucks forward.
After a poor showing at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Elias Pettersson returns to the Vancouver Canucks still looking to turn things around and while he may be off the trade block for now, one NHL insider believes
it will be difficult for Patrik Allvin to move him.
4 Nations Face-Off documentary may have revealed injury to Elias Pettersson
Since February 1st, 2024, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has recorded just 19 goals in 97 games between the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs and it's been puzzling as to why there's been such a drop off in his play.
Early last week, Elias Pettersson's agent Pat Brisson confirmed that his client
was dealing with an injury in the off-season which held him back from training at the level he would have liked and may have resulted in his poor season to this point.
"Yeah, I never try to find excuses and I know Petey had a tough summer. He couldn't train at the level he wanted to train. He had an injury that held him back for quite a while and he had an okay camp." Brisson said.
On Wednesday night, the National Hockey League aired part one of a documentary called
'4 Nations Face-Off: Unveiled', which took behind-the-scenes look at the round robin portion of the tournament.
During one part of the documentary, which aired on Sportsnet in Canada, cameras caught Elias Pettersson icing his knee prior to one of Sweden's round robin games, which could signal that the 26-year-old may still be dealing with an injury.
"Why is Pettersson icing his knee at 4 Nations if he isn't injured?" @taj1944 said on X.
If Elias Pettersson is dealing with an injury, it's a bit concerning that it's not being dealt with and he's playing through it, which isn't helping himself or the Vancouver Canucks this season.
We'll have to see how Elias Pettersson responds to his poor performance at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but hopefully for the Vancouver Canucks and their fans, he's able to step up and help the club towards their second straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
