Vancouver Canucks top prospect Sawyer Mynio, fresh off the heels of disappointment with the Calgary Hitmen, will join Abbotsford for their AHL playoff run.
Sawyer Mynio joins Abbotsford after WHL elimination
Sawyer Mynio and the Calgary Hitmen were eliminated from the WHL playoffs in a Game 7 loss to Lethbridge on Wednesday.
While surely a disappointment for Mynio, the youngster can now look to gain some valuable experience as he was reassigned to the Abbotsford Canucks, who will start their series against Coachella Valley on Thursday.
Vancouver (NHL) re-assigns D Sawyer Mynio from Calgary (WHL) to Abbotsford.
Abbotsford boasts a roster stacked with forwards who have NHL experience including Phil Di Giuseppe, Max Sasson, Sammy Blais and Arshdeep Bains, but with youngsters like Elias Pettersson graduating from the AHL blue line - there could be an opportunity for Mynio to step in and make a difference.
With 45 points in 49 games split between Calgary and Seattle this season, Mynio certainly can boost the puck moving ability of Abbotsford's back end.
Fans should be excited to see what he can bring down the stretch here, as he looks to insert himself into the mix with other young D within the Canucks organization like Pettersson, Victor Mancini and Tom Willander.
