Vancouver Canucks top prospect joins AHL affiliate for playoff run

After being picked in the 3rd round in 2023, Mynio has been a rising prospect to watch in the Canucks organization, and now could see his second taste of AHL action with the Abbotsford Canucks steamrolling towards a second round series with the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Sawyer Mynio and the Calgary Hitmen were eliminated from the WHL playoffs in a Game 7 loss to Lethbridge on Wednesday.

While surely a disappointment for Mynio, the youngster can now look to gain some valuable experience as he was reassigned to the Abbotsford Canucks, who will start their series against Coachella Valley on Thursday.

Abbotsford boasts a roster stacked with forwards who have NHL experience including Phil Di Giuseppe, Max Sasson, Sammy Blais and Arshdeep Bains, but with youngsters like Elias Pettersson graduating from the AHL blue line - there could be an opportunity for Mynio to step in and make a difference.

With 45 points in 49 games split between Calgary and Seattle this season, Mynio certainly can boost the puck moving ability of Abbotsford's back end.

Fans should be excited to see what he can bring down the stretch here, as he looks to insert himself into the mix with other young D within the Canucks organization like Pettersson, Victor Mancini and Tom Willander.
