SIGNING ALERT | Capitals announced massive extension: Could age terribly badly for the Caps
The Capitals drafted a one of a kind player in 2012 when they selected the big power forward Tom Wilson. 6'04'' and 220 pounds, he hits, fights and puts up big numbers on the board.
The forward played a crucial part in the Caps run for the cup in 2018 and was about to enter the last year of a 6-year-deal he signed in 2018.
The Caps issued the following statement this morning, stating that they'd be retaining Wilson's services for the next 7 years at a $6.5M cap hit:
This deal has the potential to age extremely badly since Wilson will be turning 30 this year, meaning he'll be under contract until he's 37. Wilson's offensive production has been worth the $6.5M AAV. However, it's rare to see players improve their numbers once they've reached 30-years-old, especially forwards who play a physical type of game like Wilson.
Wilson played 33 games this year due to a knee injury, he collected 22 points during that span.
