Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet is not one to shy away from saying what he thinks about his players, but this time, it is his actions that have caused the issues between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson to escalate.
«We're still working at it,» said Miller to Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre in 2023. «You're not going to be BFFs with everybody, but at the same time, you come to work together. We are polar opposites in a lot of ways, but we're working at it.
It is clear that Elias Pettersson is not the same player when J.T. Miller is around as it has already been confirmed the pair of forwards do not get a long.
Between those 10 games from November 19 and December 12, 2024, Elias Pettersson recorded 2 goals and 13 assists got 1 points, seeming to perform well as the top forward with out Miller.

The rift that has gone on for the last couple of season between Pettersson and Miller have been clear, but the Canucks, nor head coach Rick Tocchet have ever really fed into the drama, but it appears now that he has.
Head coach Rick Tocchet decided that it was clearly best that Miller should take reps on the second powerplay and sperate him from EP40 when they faced the Avalanche.
The the following games against the Utah Hockey Club and Vegas Golden Knights, he alternated between the two of them getting time on the first powerplay.
Even though Tocchet claimed there was nothing to the decision to separate them, it has sparked major controversy that he himself is acknowledging that the drama is escalated to a point that they can't even share time on ice with one another.
At the beginning of the season, the rift between miller and Pettersson came to the forefront when they got into a heated altercation at practice.
