The Canucks management group announced they were heading into a retool and that the team needed major surgery before hoping to get back on the winning track.

Since then, management has delivered and started heading this way. They made coaching change hiring Rick Tocchet to built foundations and increase the team's structure. They traded the captain Bo Horvat to gain multiple assets and now they trying to fix former management's mistakes in terms of cap space.

Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, Tyler Myers are on the trade block to try and free up some space. Oliver Ekman is a player that management would love to move, but he's full NMC and is hefty AAV makes it unthinkable. That's why the Canucks are starting to consider the possibility of buying out the defenseman.

Though as Irfaan Gaffar stated on Canucks Central that they had tough mathematic to do.

Obviously, in order to move on in their retool, the Canucks need to move from these contracts. Jannik Hansen added on the subject:

» There's too many [bad contracts right now]... You have two defensemen (Myers & OEL) making a lot of money in vital positions... They're just not pulling their weight»

The possibility of buying out Conor Garland was already brought up, though he may have had a second-wind with the coaching change since he Tocchet seem to be getting along pretty well.

Considering the road the Canucks are taking, should they make the move of buying out Oliver Ekman-Larsson? Is this the right move moving forward?
