According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Arizona Coyotes have placed forward Zack Kassian and defenceman Patrik Nemeth on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Kassian, 32, was traded to the Coyotes from Edmonton in July 2022 and had an awful first season in the desert. In 51 games, the former Canucks forward had two goals, 50 penalty minutes and was a minus-18.

The Windsor native had one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $3.2 million. Kassian's buyout will last two seasons and comes at a cap hit of $1,666,667 in year one and $766,667 in year two.

Nemeth, 31, also just completed his first season with the Coyotes where he recorded five assists, 30 penalty minutes and was a minus-seven in 75 games. Like Kassian, Nemeth also had one year remiaining on his contract, but his cap hit was lower, at $2.5 million.

The 6'4" 230 pound defenceman's buyout will also last two seasons and comes with a cap hit of $166,667 in the first year and $1,166,667 in the second year.

If Kassian and Nemeth clear waivers on Wednesday, which is expected, they'll both become unrestricted free agents.
