The KHL's free agency period opened on May 1st and it was a big shock that defenceman Nikita Tryamkin hadn't signed a contract on day one.

Its become known that Tryamkin is looking to make a return to the National Hockey League and will re-evaluate his KHL options if there are no contract offers from teams in North America over the summer.

"I'm waiting for a call from across the ocean, but I confess that I'm not going to wait long. And if it is not, then I will instruct the agents to look at the Russian options." Tryamkin told sport-express.ru.

Tryamkin, 28, was a third round pick of the Canucks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and joined the team towards the end of the 2015-16 season and for the entire 2016-17 season, before heading back to the KHL where he's spent the last six years.

In 79 career NHL games, the Yekaterinburg, Russia native had 11 points (three goals, eight assists), 74 penalty minutes and was a minus-ten.
