The Canucks are now starting a retool/rebuild, so now more than ever, the prospects development will be the top priority.

In that same line of thoughts, the Canucks recieved some bad news this morning when it was announced that the team's latest first-round selection, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, would be out of business for the remainder of the season.

"Jonathan Lekkerimäki has a foot injury and will miss eight weeks according to a press release from his Allsvenskan team."

Lekkerimaki suffered a concussion earlier in the season and now a broken foot will keep him away from the ice. So far this year, he's spent his time between Djurgårdens in the J20, where he managed five points in only 2 games. He played the most part of his season in the Allsveskan a pro league in Sweden where he manage to put up nine points in 29 games.

Prior to being picked, Lekkerimaki was forecasted as one of, if not the best sharpshooter of this draft. Although he has not exceeded expectations, he's still fairly young at only 18 years of age, but moving forward, can he develop into the player the Canucks need him to be?
