Reports stated that Demko was displeased with his situation in Vancouver and that the Canucks had been taking calls on their franchise netminder. Demko addressed the matter firsthand when he came back and denied every rumor and has stepped his game up to a point where it feels like the Canucks can play any team. Proving that he's willing to help the Canucks to the next step in their «retooling».
Satiar Shah on his end revealed what he thought would be the ask from the Canucks if they meant to trade him or if they were to even consider moving their netminder. Here's what he had to say when he was on Canucks Central earlier today:
Demko has literally been on fire since he came back and has proven yet again after a slower season start, that he belongs in the league's elite. Even if they were to manage to fetch such a return, which I believe is totally imaginable for a goaltender of his age and talent. I'm not sure he's the king of players you trade, I think he's just that good.
Goaltenders of that caliber are hard to come by and there's no certainty that there is a replacement in the Canucks' pipeline, even though Arturs Silovs has only shown great things thus far.
The Canucks will now have two high-end defensemen in Filip Hronek and Quinn Hughes, Ethan Bear has shown great things and is very much capable of taking a top4 spot. If they manage to buy out or move Ekman-Larsson and Tyler Myers, the Canucks could potentially have a really contract-efficient back end. Are we really in a position to sell a franchise goaltender?
