Former Vancouver Canucks forward didn't hold back his comments on the type of teammate Alex Ovechkin is
Former Vancouver Canucks forward Brendan Morrison, who spent the better of 8 seasons playing for our Canucks, spoke about how special Alex Ovechkin as a teammate.
Just last night, NHL fans witnessed history when Washington Capitals captain and living legend Alex Ovechkin tied the «unbreakable» career goal record set by Wayne Gretzky.
With an incredible 2 goal performance, he is now just one goal away from standing alone with a record that almost everyone in the hockey community believed would never happen.
Brendan Morrison has high praise for Alex Ovechkin
After spending the majority of his career with the Canucks, he later moved on to the Capitals where he got to witness Ovechkin's greatness firsthand.
Morrison talked to the media recently about the kind of teammate he was and how no matter what you prepare to defend his one-timer on the power play, it will never be enough.
Oh yeah,» Morrison chuckled Saturday from his home in Michigan. «Everyone knows it's coming and nobody has been able to stop it. It's mind boggling. Everybody has a game plan in how to defend that on the power play, but nobody has been able to do it.»
Putting aside his greatness on the ice, Morrison went into details to describe just how incredible of a teammate and leader Ovi was, going into details about just how much he loves the game and shows it everyday.
We had a phenomenal team and won the President's Trophy and it was just being around OV,» stressed Morrison. «You could see the passion and people always say: 'What's he like?' He's like a big kid. Every day he'd come to the rink with a huge smile and a lot of energy.
«He'd be jumping off the walls and just loved being on the ice. And he's not shy. He's got a very outgoing and gregarious personality. It's infectious and he's a fun guy to be around. He was so selfless.
When you see Ovechkin score goals and celebrate with his teammates, Morrison's comments about how passionate of player he is really hits home and he now has the chance this evening (April 6th) to break Gretzky's record.
