The Canucks were fined earlier this year once their season had formally ended for conducting practices with players, in which the coaching staff was involved.

It caused a stir around the league since the demand for more ice-time actually came from the players and we're not made mandatory by the Canucks.

' "Prohibited Off-Season Activities. Clubs are not permitted to have Club Coaching or Hockey Operations personnel (e.g., coaches, skating instructors, other Club employees, contracted service providers, etc.) participate in any on-ice sessions with Players," reads the expanded rule 15.11 from the Memorandum of Understanding that amended the CBA coming back from the COVID-19 stoppage.''

Canucks were fined since they did not respect the CBA and at that point, it was ok.

Eliotte Friedman revealed quite the piece of information earlier this week when he announced that, at the player's request, one could be allowed to skate with a skills coach, as long as the demand goes through the NHLPA:

' From what I understand, one skills coach will be allowed on-ice with player, and it must be at the player's request. Player must go through NHLPA, which will contact team and league. Again, this is a one-summer trial, for now.''

The Canucks were notably penalized for having Henrik Sedin, said skills coach, out with no more than 4 players who had not been given as many opportunities as other players such as Jack Studnicka.

The Canucks have to be furious at this situation since the NHL announced that they wouldn't retro-actively reimburse the fines that were paid for that precise scenario.
