The Vancouver Canucks are expecting to be fairly busy over the next few weeks leading up to the NHL trade deadline day.
The Canucks have already shipped off their captain Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders last week and that could be just the tip of the iceberg after a disappointing season. One Canuck that appears to be on the move fairly soon is Canucks Defenceman Tyler Myers.
This comes from Hockey Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Who revealed earlier tonight:
"The Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks have had discussions over a possible trade involving defenceman Tyler Myers. The Canucks have been engaged in trade talks with the Toronto Maple Leafs, whom have been suggesting to everyone that their focus is on upgrading up front, about a Myers deal. There appears to be steady traction there, from what I've been told. Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is exploring all his options, at both ends of the ice, but it seems talks with Vancouver on Myers have shifted his focus for the time being."
Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas has been trying to build up his defense core heading into the playoffs Myers would be a nice pickup.
Myers carries a $6M AAV for this year and the following, unless the Canucks take a bad contract the other way around, it's hard to imagine that there won't be any salary retention. Though at this point, we're fairly sure that the Canucks would do anything to get this contract elsewhere.
The Maple Leafs desperately need someone to cover for the loss of Jake Muzzin, they have plenty of young puck-moving defensemen in Rasmus Sandin, Connor Timmins, and Timothy Liljegren, adding a big veteran like Myers would go a long way for this team heading into the playoff's first round.
What would you consider a fair return for Myers?
