It could be argued that he had a successful tenure as the Flames' GM, a counterargument could also be made that it was a disaster. He had been with the Flames for the last 9 years and suddenly decided he had enough. The reason for his departure has been revealed and it's now pointing to a brighter future in Calgary.
The Flames' had Stanley Cup hopes prior to the season and things went south as the season went on since things clearly didn't click with the team's new stars Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri. While many thought that Darryl Sutter's old manners may have been one of the reasons behind the team's struggle, it may also be the reason for the discord within the organization.
It appears that the relationship between Treliving and Sutter wasn't where it needed to be. This situation clearly points out that the Flames ownership group preferred to keep Sutter over Treliving and at the end of the day, this may not be the right call unless you plan on trading the players who also have discord with the head coach.
Knowing that Sutter will most likely be the Flames' bench boss heading into the 2023-2024 season, do you still have faith they can make it to the playoffs?
