The Vancouver Canucks will be trying all they can over the next few weeks and into the summer to try and clear cap space ahead of the 2023-24 season. The team would like to make some additions in free agency next month, but with their current cap situation, they're very limited on what they can do.

One name that has been brought up quite a bit in the last little while is Conor Garland, who has a cap hit of $4.95 million for the 2023-24 season and two more years beyond that.

In recent days, Garland has been linked to one of Vancouver's Pacific Division rivals, the Seattle Kraken. In an article talking about potential impact players the Kraken could add, Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times mentions Garland, as well as Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere.

"Rumors have persisted that the Canucks are trying to move winger Conor Garland whose positional flexibility and feisty nature fit well with the Kraken's style of play and his $4.95 million annual cap hit for the next three seasons." Baker said.

Garland, 27, had another fairly good year for the Canucks during the 2022-23 campaign, putting up 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists), 31 penalty minutes and was a minus-five in 81 games. He followed that up by recording eight points in ten games with the United States at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship.

While there are other names on the Canucks roster that would be worth moving for salary-related reasons, it seems that there is quite a bit of interest in Garland and being able to take his nearly $5 million cap hit off the books would be a massive win for Patrik Allvin.
