WOW | Insider reveals the amount of money the Islanders need to re-sign Horvat
Due to their inability to sign their captain to an extension, the Canucks have no other than to trade him and they pulled the trigger no later than Monday.
It was revealed earlier today that the latest offer that was rejected by the Horvat clan from the Canucks was sitting at $7.5M AAV for the next seven years.
Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period spoke on the matter and stated that if Lou Lamoriello wanted to re-sign the star centerman, he would nothing less than an $8M AAV to get it done:
The Islanders have a hefty payroll already filled with centermen. Mat Barzal commands a $9.15M AAV,
Brock Nelson at $6M,
Jean-Gabriel Pageau at $5M and
Casey Cizikas at $2.5M Adding
Bo Horvat at a minimum of $8M would mean that at least $30M would be spent towards the team's centermen.
Horvat is currently having a career year with 31 goals in 49 games, on pace for 50 goals and 87 points. He'll most likely shatter every career-high he had previously set for himself, but still, is he worth this much money?
The price paid by the Islanders is far too steep for them to let him walk when comes free-agency, but is it reasonable to spend that much money on him?
