Former University of Arizona hockey player banned by MLB for physical altercation with Dodgers' Mookie Betts
During game #4 of the 2024 MLB World Series, an ex-hockey player from the University of Arizona got involved in one of the strangest fans/player incidents you will ever see, and now his identity has been revealed by NFL legend, Rob Gronkowski.
Fans are an essential aspect to the professional sports we all love, with out them, the games and league would be nothing, but there is an line that cannot be crossed, and last night, in the 2024 World Series, it was.
A pair of New York Yankees fans decided to try and take matters into their own hands, and make an impact on the game. When a foul ball was hit, Dodgers outfielder Mookie Beets made an unbelieve leaping catch to make the out, but as seen in the video, the fans tried to strip the ball away from him, in order to prevent the out from sticking.
Unfortunately for the two fans, one of them identified as former University of Arizona club hockey player Austin Capobianco. The repercussions for their actions were swift and extreme (rightfully so) as the both were removed (ejected) from the game. They told reporters after that they planned on going to the next game, but the MLB stepped in to prevent that from happening.
They said during their initial interviews that they would, in fact, come back for Game 5; however, Major League Baseball stepped in and asked the Yankees not to allow them into the next game. To this wish from MLB, the Yankees relented and barred the pair, in essence, from further participation in the World Series.
Randomly enough, former NFL legend tight end and colorful personality, Rob Gronkowski disclosed on the 'Up & Adams Show' the identity of the fan, saying that he was indeed friends with Capobianco in college.
«Him doing that represents him very well. He is all in for his teams...He's a beauty.»
All in all, sports needs fans, and fans needs sports, but there is a level of commitment and passion that becomes excessive and straight up ridiculous, and this will go down as one of the crazier ones in sports history.
