Hockey world mourning the loss of a legend

The New Jersey Devils have announced the passing of Vladimir Bure, the father of former Vancouver Canucks forward Pavel Bure.

We have some sad news to pass along on Wednesday as the New Jersey Devils have sharedthat Vladimir Bure, father of former Vancouver Canucks forward Pavel Bure and ex-NHLer Valeri Bure, has passed away at the age of 73.

Vladimir Bure spent a decade with the New Jersey Devils organization as a Fitness Consultant and was apart of the team when they won the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003. He had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup in both years.

"The Devils organization is saddened to learn of the passing of Vladimir Bure, who spent over a decade with the organization.

A former Olympic medalist in swimming, he became a pioneer in the field of athlete training for thirty years. He served as Fitness Consultant for New Jersey from 1999-2010, and had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003."

Before joining the New Jersey Devils organization, Vladimir Bure was a swimmer on the international stage for the Soviet Union, winning four Olympic medals - Bronze in Mexico City 1968, Silver in Munich 1972, and two more Bronze, also in 1972.
