It's confirmed for Jeff Marek: He opened up on his relationship with Sportsnet
After reports emerged Thursday about Jeff Marek's future at Sportsnet, Marek released an official statement on Friday addressing the situation.
His sudden disappearance from Sportsnet's draft coverage after the first round in late June had sparked curiosity. Fans noticed his absence when a planned episode of the "32 Thoughts" podcast with Elliotte Friedman covering the opening day of free agency never materialized, and Marek's social media went silent.
"Firstly, thanks for the outpouring of kind words on Twitter/X. It means the world to me," said Marek.
"After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I'm moving on. It's been an incredible journey and I'm thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and brought sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon."
A report from YYZ Sports Media surfaced yesterday, indicating that Marek would no longer be working at Sportsnet. This development likely means the end of "The Jeff Marek Show" and his role as co-host on "32 Thoughts."
On Friday afternoon, Marek made his first public comments since the draft on social media, releasing a statement about the rumours. With Sportsnet's national coverage rights expiring, it wouldn't be surprising to see TSN and Bell Media attempt to bring Marek on board to enhance their already robust hockey coverage in a bid to reclaim national broadcasting rights. Whatever the outcome, we hope to gain more clarity on the reasons behind Marek's departure in the coming days.
