Neely came out to the media this morning and opendly stated that Swayman had $64M good reasons to be the Bruins right now and that it was his choice to opt out; clearly hinting that an eight year, 64 million dollar deal had been placed on the table:
Shortly after, the goaltender's agent came out swinging to answer to the allegations and the Bruins' relationship with the Swayman camp just took a massive hit. Lewis Gross, Swayman's agent, released the following statement:
Since the talks have exploded on social media one thing has been frequently coming back: the trade request. Swayman has been clear on his intentions, as he attempts to «reset» the goaltenders market. He intends to hold out until the moment he gets paid the money he wants, or until the time he gets traded.
The Bruins went after two of the top Canucks' free agent this summer, Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm. Two players that most analyst can agree, were paid way beyond their worth. Zadorov and Lindholm played great for the Canucks during the playoffs only to drive their contracts value up, what did Allvin do with that? He tendered offers to the both of them, driving their free agency prices up.
The Bruins ended signing both for a combined $14M and now, that might be the money they needed to re-sign their goaltender. The Bruins currently have a projected cap space of over $7.8M, if Swayman wants more, it requires a certain gymnastics.
Whether or not Patrik Allvin had that planned, the Canucks have played a big role in the Bruins' negociations with Jeremy Swayman.
