Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has withdrawn from team Canada for this years inaugural 4-Nations Faceoff Tournament.

The brand new 4 Nations Faceoff Tournament that will feature the NHL's best players from Canada, United States, Sweden and Finland, will compete on a best on best tournament that will replace the stagnant All-Star game.

Alex Pietrangelo Withdraws from Team Canada

Unfortunately for Team Canada, their defensive group will be getting a bit more thin as multiple time All-star and 2-time Stanley Cup Champion d-man, Alex Pietrangelo has turned down the offer to play.

It was announced that the 35-year-old will use this time off to rest and look after an injury that is currently bothering him.

"to tend to an ailment and prepare for the remainder of the regular season."

The odd thing that has taken fans back is that Pietrangelo is still currently playing for the Golden Knights and the "ailment" is not keeping him from playing through NHL games.

With Just under a month left for the deadline to finalize the rosters, Team Canada has not yet announced his replacement, but will most likely use the rest of the team to evaluate other players.

Some right-shot blueliners who could be candidates to be added to the team include Dougie Hamilton of the Devils, Evan Bouchard of the Oilers, Aaron Ekblad of the Panthers and Drew Doughty of the Kings.
