The 2023-24 regular season is beginning to wind down in several top European leagues and it appears that a former Canuck will be looking for a new home after not joining up with a Slovakian club.
Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Jaroslav Halak was originally set to join Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava but will no longer do so.
"I didn't want to create a stuffy atmosphere in Slovan's dressing room. That's why I assessed that it would be better if I didn't come." Halak said.
Halak, 38, has yet to suit up for a game anywhere during the 2023-24 season. Earlier in the season, he had a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Carolina Hurricanes, but nothing ever came of it and he was released to become a free agent a couple weeks later.
The Bratislava native spent the 2021-22 season with the Vancouver Canucks where he appeared in 17 games as the backup to Thatcher Demko. In those 17 games, he had a record of 4-7-2 with a 2.94 goals against average, a .903 save percentage.
