SAME PLAYER, SAME STORY, DIFFERENT YEAR
About a year ago, the Golden Knights made the ''heart-breaking announcement'' that their captain, Mark Stone, would go to the Long-Term Injury Reserve and be out for a while. As weird as it seemed, Stone made massive progress once the playoffs started and helped his team win its first franchise Stanley Cup.
Fast forward to the current day. The Knights' GM announced that his star $9.5M forward, Mark Stone, was once again headed to the Long-Term Injury Reserve:
GOLDEN KNIGHTS STRATEGY EXPOSED?
They did it last year, and now they are repeating the experiment. With Stone on the Long-Term Injury Reserve, most likely until the beginning of the playoffs, the Golden Knights will benefit from a $9.5M cap relief. The Golden Knights can ride this up until the playoffs start, when the salary cap will no longer be considered.
The Knights could target another star player on the trade market with this money. Keep Mark Stone on the LTIR until the playoffs, and then have another boosted line-up just like they did last year.
