The NHL has come down hard on New York Rangers power forward Matt Rempe, suspending him for 8 games after his illegal hit from behind on Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.

The concerning incident took place a few days ago on Friday December 20th, when the New York Rangers took on the Dallas Stars, winning 3-1 on the road.

Rempe received a five-minute major for elbowing and was also booted from the game, which is no new feat for the youngster, as it marks his fourth ejection in his short-lived 22-game career.

Rempe has been an ip and down player all season long for the Rangers, only appearing in 5 games thus far.

The 22-year-old has yet to record a point, making his mark mainly sitting in the penalty box, racking up 24 penalty minutes in those five appearances.

After the hit, Heiskanen was clearly slow to get up and was shaken by the impact, and it was clear the Rempe was going to receive supplemental discipline.

With this 8 game suspension, it now marks Rempe's 2nd time being suspended, where his first stint came back in March of 2023, where he was tossed for the same act, elbowing New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler.

As stated earlier, Rempe has only appeared in 22 NHL games in his career, meaning that more than 50% of his "games" on suspension (12).

Rempe will forfeit $80,000 USD of salary for this act, and for a player who is not a star, that is a major chunk of change.
