The amount of money Meredith Gaudreau will receive from the NHL finally revealed
Details have emerged about the financial support Meredith Gaudreau will receive following the tragic death of her husband, Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were victims of a drunk driver over a week ago, and as the Gaudreau family prepares for their funeral, the NHL's insurance policy for players has come to light.
Reports indicate that Meredith Gaudreau will receive one year's worth of Johnny's salary plus an additional $1 million. For the 2024-2025 season, Johnny Gaudreau was set to earn $9.75 million. While it's unclear whether he had any additional personal life insurance, the family could receive further compensation.
Under Section 23.6 of the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, in the event of a player's death, specific provisions such as continued health coverage may also be available to the family, provided the player was eligible, which Johnny reportedly was.
23.6 (c) In the event of the death of a Player, the Player's spouse at the time of the Player's death shall have the right to elect continuation of coverage for her lifetime, provided that the Player would have otherwise qualified for such continuation under Sections 23.6(a) or b.
