Canadian anthem singer and three-time Juno Award winner Chantal Kreviazuk purposely altered the lyrics during her performance last night at the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game against the United States.

Canada and the United States, a massive rivalry on the international hockey stage, met once again in the final of a tournament, with Connor McDavid playing the role of hero by scoring the overtime winner on a great feed from Mitch Marner.

Canadian anthem singer Chantal Keviazuk alters lyrics before game

Prior to the game, fans at TD Garden in Boston stood for the Canadian national anthem, which was performed by Chantal Kreviazuk, a three-time Juno Award winner who has worked with other artists such as Drake, Christina Aguilera, among others.
American fans in attendance began by booing the national anthem, as a response to Canadians doing the same to theirs in Montreal, but they were quickly drowned out by those wearing the maple leaf in the crowd.
Fans weren't too happy with Chantal Kreviazuk's performance of the national anthem, with some saying she butchered it and others going as far as saying it was the worst they've ever heard, but it looks like there was a meaning behind it.
According to Kreviazuk's publicist, the singer altered the lyrics in O, Canada in response to Donald Trump's repeated threat becoming the 51st state.
"In an email to The Canadian Press, publicist Adam Gonshor explained that Kreviazuk changed the lyric from "in all of us command" to "that only us command" in response to Trump's comments." Sportsnet said.
Kreviazuk gave an interview with The Canadian Press following her performance last night where she said she was singing for our pride, honor, sovereignty and history.
"My voice probably sounded not as stable, and it was because it made me so emotional," Kreviazuk said. "I was singing for our pride, for our honour, our sovereignty, our history - the good, the bad - and the future."

It was an incredible ten days of international best-on-best hockey and thankfully, fans won't have to wait another eight-plus years for it again, as NHL players will be back at the Olympics in less than 365 days in Milano-Cortina, Italy.
