WILL MYERS BE A CANUCK WHEN COMES OPENING NIGHT?
There is no confirmation when Myers' hefty bonus is due ($5M); some believe it was meant to be paid on September 1st, and others on September 15th. One thing is sure: such a contract could come in handy for teams with limited spending budgets who need help to reach the cap floor.
While Myers will still carry his $6M cap hit, he'll only be due $1M in actual salary during the season. If the Canucks elected to retain a portion of his salary, even cup contenders could be intrigued to add the experienced Myers as a 5th or 6th d-man.
4 TEAMS HAVE INQUIRED
From HockeyBuzz, Eklund once again reported on the Canucks and revealed that four teams had been poking around hoping of adding Myers. The Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals the hope of reviving their Stanley Cup hopes. The Rangers, even though they have wild cap issues. The San Jose Sharks could use a contract like Myers' in the midst of their retooling.
With Tanner Pearson looking like he's back at 100%, the Canucks' overload on the wings and their salary cap issues, Allvin has to be cooking something. Moving Myers would allow them to reach the Salary Cap, and allow a youngster such as Akito Hirose, Cole McWard, or perhaps Filip Johansson to have a full-time job in the NHL.
