Trade: Top Trade Target Cam Fowler's Future with the Vancouver Canucks Decided
Cam Fowler, a potential trade target for the Vancouver Canucks, was on the move on Saturday afternoon after being dealt by the Anaheim Ducks.
The Vancouver Canucks have been has been pretty active working the phone lines according to reports, as they team continues their search for help, especially on the blue line.
One name that the Vancouver Canucks have been linked to in recent weeks is Cam Fowler of the Anaheim Ducks, but after what feels like months and months of rumors, the veteran defenseman was finally traded and is on his way out of Orange County.
Anaheim Ducks trade defenseman Cam Fowler to the St. Louis Blues
While the Vancouver Canucks may have been poking around at the possibility of bringing in Cam Fowler, he won't be heading to British Columbia, unfortunately.
In a post on their website, the Anaheim Ducks announced that they've traded Cam Fowler (retaining 38.4615385 percent of his remaining salary) along with a 2027 fourth-round pick to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defensive prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka and a 2027 second-round pick.
Anaheim Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek opened up about the move on Saturday, thanking Cam Fowler for his contributions to the organization over the last 15 seasons, adding that it was a difficult trade to make.
"This was a difficult trade to make considering what Cam has meant to this organization," said Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek. "He has been a valuable and respected member of our team for 15 seasons, representing the Ducks with ultimate class. His character and contributions on and off the ice have and will continue to leave a positive impact on our fans and community. After meeting with Cam several times over the last few months, it became clear to both of us it may be time for a change. As usual, Cam handled the process with professionalism and remained committed to the Ducks. Cam and his family deserve nothing but the best going forward, and we wish them the best of luck."
Fowler, a native of Windsor, Ontario, has spent his entire 15 year NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks after they selected him 12th overall during the 2010 Entry Draft.
In 991 career games with Anaheim, the 33-year-old has registered 457 points (96 goals, 361 assists), 261 penalty minutes and was a minus-129.
We'll have to wait and see what Patrik Allvin may have up his sleeve in the coming months as we head towards the trade deadline to improve the team's defensive group.
After Saturday, teams will only have another five days to complete trades before the NHL's Holiday Roster Freeze takes effect on December 20th running through December 27th.
