Pearson was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, along with a 2025 third-round pick, in exchange for goaltender Casey DeSmith, who will almost certainly be the backup behind Thatcher Demko.
Just a couple hours after the trade, the Vancouver Canucks took to X to thank Pearson for his time with the franchise.
Rick Dhaliwal, on his end, changed the dialogue big time on his show today when he revealed that after last year's situation, the Canucks had no intention of keeping him moving forward. Both parties held hard feelings about the way thing ended up. Here's the segment:
During Pearson's time in Vancouver, the 31-year-old appeared in 221 games, where he recorded 114 points (55 goals, 59 assists), 108 penalty minutes and was a minus-19.
It's unclear where Pearson will fit in with the Montreal Canadiens, especially given the fact that earlier this summer, they moved out two players - Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick - in order to make room for younger players to make the jump to the NHL.
If Pearson performs well and stays healthy, there's a good chance that the Canadiens could trade him before the deadline in early March. Montreal isn't contending this year, as they're still in the midst of a rebuild, and Pearson is a pending unrestricted free agent, so a mid-season trade is a very good possibility.
From everyone here at CanucksDaily, thank you to Tanner Pearson for his time in Vancouver and all the best with Montreal!
