A well respected NHL insider has proposed a new four-player blockbuster trade that has once against emerged between the Vancouver Canucks and the all too familiar New York Rangers.
Insider thinks the Vancouver Canucks and New York rangers are not down making trades
Just like back at the end of January where the Rangers and Canucks combined in a blockbuster trade that sent JT Miller to the Big Apple, they could be once again coming together in a new trade proposal.
Rangers acquire:
F Conor Garland
F Dakota Joshua
Canucks acquire:
F Mika Zibanejad
F Brett Berard
In all reality, there is no real chance that this trade ever comes to fruition, as it really does not address any of the needs for the Canucks nor the Rangers as all the players involved currently work well on their current rosters and there is no need for them to swap just for the sake of swapping.
While Mika Zibanejad is a talented center, he does not come with a cheap price tag as he carries an $8.5 million cap hit for the next 5 years, where it is clear that his game is on the slight decline at 31-years-old.
Additionally, although Joshua has struggles this season after coming cancer surgery in the offseason, Conor Garland and Dakota Joshua have been key contributors for the Canucks on and off the ice. While Brett Berard just does not come close to matching the production of both the Canucks forwards.
In general, the trade feels unnecessary and is more of a lateral move, the Canucks will be better off navigating the open market first and the consider making a drastic change such as this.
