BRUINS PLACING THEIR BID ON CONOR GARLAND?
Garland has been linked to many teams since his agent was granted the right to facilitate trade; while the Bruins haven't been one of them, the journalists out of Boston have started speculating on what a possible offer for the winger could look like, which could be exciting.

TO BOSTON

GREAT DEAL FOR THE CANUCKS?
Retaining the salary on Conor Garland's contract isn't ideal, but at the point we're at with the tight cap and everything, there's no way a deal of this sort happens without it.
In this offer, the Canucks would be retaining $1.485M of Garland's cap hit for the remaining three years; they'd also be adding Matt Grzelcyk, who has a $3.6875M cap hit until the end of the season. The Canucks would only be freeing up cap space at the end of the season, but they acquired a top-end asset in Fabian Lysell was the 21st overall pick in the 2021 draft. A winger with intriguing potential, he collected 37 points in 54 games in his first AHL season; he's well-known to the Vancouver fanbase for his time with the Giants in the WHL. He had then managed 62 points in 53 games as an 18-year-old.
The Canucks have repeatedly stated that they intended on clearing at the very least $1.5M on the cap; with this deal, they'd recover a whole $3.5M for the next two years and paid a 1st Round Caliber prospect to do so.
It is expected that more talks will come out of this; the latest reports suggest that we're nearing an end to that saga. Mikheyev's injury status may be what the Canucks are waiting for to move their number 8.
