LATEST | Ottawa Senators pull classless act moments before their game in Vancouver
The Ottawa Senators made their lone trip of the season to Vancouver and Rogers Arena against the Canucks and it didn't go as they hoped, losing the game by a score of 6-3 after allowing five goals in the first period.
Prior to the game, Ottawa Senators head coach Jacques Martin made the decision to scratch North Vancouver native Angus Crookshank in what would have been his first game in his hometown.
"Sens scratched rookie and North Vancouver native Angus Crookshank in what would have been his first #NHL game in his hometown. Blackhawks better not be taking notes" Jeff Paterson said.
Crookshank, 24, made his National Hockey League debut this season and has gone on to appear in six games for the Senators during the 2023-24 campaign, putting up two points (one goal, one assist), four penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
While the move to make Angus Crookshank a healthy scratch was simply because Jacques Martin wanted to put his best lineup out there against one of the league's best teams, it's still got to feel terrible for the hometown kid, especially if he had family and friends in attendance.
The Canucks will return to action on Thursday night as they face off against the Blues in St. Louis to kick off a seven-game road trip. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet Pacific.
