It's confirmed for former Canuck Travis Green: Lands new coaching job
The last 11 months have been a rollercoaster for former Vancouver Canucks bench boss Travis Green and it appears he's on the verge of returning to Canada for a new head coaching job.
According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Ottawa Senators are expected to hire Travis Green as their next Head Coach, replacing Jacques Martin, who took over for D.J. Smith in mid-December.
"Final details are still being worked on. Indications are Travis Green will be the next head coach of the Ottawa Senators." Dreger said in a post on X on Monday.
Green, a native of Castlegar, British Columbia spent parts of five seasons behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks where he had a record of 133-147-34 in 314 regular season games. In 2020, he led the Canucks to the second round of the playoffs after beating the Minnesota Wild in the qualifying round and the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues in round one, before losing to the Vegas Golden Knights.
On Tuesday morning, Bruce Garrioch of Post Media revealed that it is a done deal. Travis Green is the new Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators and it will be formally announced by the organization later today, with a press conference being held on Wednesday.
"Sources tell Postmedia the deal is done and Travis Green is the #Sens new head coach. Expectation is announcement will be made today. Green will be introduced tomorrow with press conference by POHO/GM Steve Staios. Owner Michael Andlauer will also be in town." Garrioch said.
It's going to be interesting to see how Travis Green feels under the spotlight in a Canadian market once again, especially one in Ottawa where expectations are high after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last seven seasons.
