According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Ottawa Senators are expected to hire Travis Green as their next Head Coach, replacing Jacques Martin, who took over for D.J. Smith in mid-December.
Green, a native of Castlegar, British Columbia spent parts of five seasons behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks where he had a record of 133-147-34 in 314 regular season games. In 2020, he led the Canucks to the second round of the playoffs after beating the Minnesota Wild in the qualifying round and the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues in round one, before losing to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Last June, Green was hired by the New Jersey Devils to be an Associate Coach, before taking over the Head Coaching role on an interim basis in March following the dismissal of Lindy Ruff.
On Tuesday morning, Bruce Garrioch of Post Media revealed that it is a done deal. Travis Green is the new Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators and it will be formally announced by the organization later today, with a press conference being held on Wednesday.
It's going to be interesting to see how Travis Green feels under the spotlight in a Canadian market once again, especially one in Ottawa where expectations are high after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last seven seasons.
