As the Vancouver Canucks evaluate their options on the trade market over the next few weeks, a familiar face has emerged as a possibility after being made available by his club.
The Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin are still searching
searching for some depth down the middle and someone they can plug into that second line center role, and it appears that one of their former first-round picks could be an option for them ahead of March 7th.
Former Vancouver Canucks first-round pick Jared McCann reportedly lands on trade block
Jared McCann, who was drafted in the first-round by the Vancouver Canucks in 2014 and now plays for the Seattle Kraken, appears to be available for trade as we head toward the NHL's deadline for the 2024-25 campaign.
According to Jacob Stoller of Sportsnet, he's hearing that Jared McCann could be available for trade before the deadline.
Stoller also shared that if needed, Jared McCann can play center, which could intriguing his former club in Vancouver who's been searching for help down the middle ever since
trading J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers nearly two weeks ago.
"I'm hearing Jared McCann could be made available before the deadline.
McCann is a versatile scoring forward that can kill penalties and play centre, if needed.
The 28 yr old carries a $5M AAV until the end of the '26-27 season." Stoller said on social media on Tuesday.
McCann, a native of Stratford, Ontario, was selected 24th overall by Vancouver 11 years ago and made the jump to the NHL right from the OHL for the 2015-16 seasons,
which he admitted probably wasn't the best move and he likely needed time in the American Hockey League.
Over the last four seasons, McCann has been with the Seattle Kraken where he's game has really taken off, recording 40 goals and 70 points two years ago.
However with the Kraken outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference and McCann playing well this season with 42 points in 57 games, the club could look to sell high on him before the deadline in just over three weeks.
It'll be interesting to see how many teams will pounce at the opportunity to acquire Jared McCann, but his $5 million salary for the next two seasons following 2024-25 could be tricky for some teams to add.
