Former Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson has opened up about his retirement from professional hockey after 16 seasons in the National Hockey League.

Loui Eriksson announced on Monday that he was retiring from professional hockey, becoming the second former Vancouver Canuck to do so in 2025, following Alex Chiasson in early January.

Loui Eriksson releases statement following announcement of his retirement

Through his representation at CAA Sports, Loui Eriksson released a statement on social media where he opened up about his decision to retire from hockey, while thanking those who helped him throughout his lengthy career.
"It's time.....

After a year and a half of reflection, it's time to officially retire. Hockey has given me more than I could have ever imagined. I've had the highest of highs and lowest of lows. But at the end of the day I'm so thankful for the memories that I am bringing as I walk away from the game of hockey.

I wanna thank my agents Claes Elefalk and Peter Werner, for bringing me in as a young boy, and the rest of the staff at CAA. Thank you to Lerum BK, Frolunda HC, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes. My teammates, coaches, staff, fans, friends and family on and off the ice through the years for the support, motivation, love and friendship you have shown me. I hope I gave you all something in return.

A special thank you to the Dallas Stars organization for helping me as a young man to transition into the life of an athlete in the States. For believing in me and giving me a chance to play in the NHL and making my dreams come true. The city of Dallas and the friends I crossed paths with through the years will forever have a special place in my heart." part of Eriksson's statement read.

Loui Eriksson's agent Claes Elefalk also shared a brief statement on his client's retirement from hockey on social media, congratulating him on an incredible career and wishing him all the best in wherever life takes him next.
"Huge congratulations on an outstanding career, Loui! Very few hockey players have the privilege of playing over 1,000 games in the best league in the world, the NHL-and you did it with grace, skill, and determination, all while being a tremendously popular teammate. For us at CAA, it has been an absolute pleasure to represent you since you were 15. We are incredibly proud to have had you with us and look forward to following your journey wherever life takes you next. 🙌" Elefalk said.

The 39-year-old finishes his hockey career with 1,050 NHL games under his belt with the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes where he put up 613 points (253 goals, 360 assists), 200 penalty minutes and was a plus-16.
During his time with the Vancouver Canucks, he appeared in 252 games between the 2016-17 and 2020-21 seasons where he registered 90 points (38 goals, 52 assists) before being dealt to the Arizona Coyotes in 2021 as part of a package for Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland.
