The Canucks have clarified that they were in the market for a Defenseman to bolster their right side. While Filip Hronek and Tyler Myers currently share the load, neither fits Quinn Hughes perfectly.

FREE OPTION ON WAIVERS?

Among the critical list of waivers that dropped at 14:00 ET today, a Duncan, BC native, Dylan Coghlan, found his way onto the releases after being caught as the odd man in Carolina's loaded defence. The analyst Irf Gaffar opened up and stated that Coghlan was a can't-miss opportunity for the Canucks:

''If I am the Vancouver Canucks I am trying to claim Dylan Coughlan off waivers. He would fill a void on that blue line. Plus, he's from BC.''

Coghlan is listed at 6'02'' and 210 pounds; he's under contract for the remainder of the year at a near-league minimum of $850K. The scouting reports are pretty promising, and with the experience he's gathered, he could be precisely what the Canucks needed:

''The undrafted defenseman has solid offensive instincts and a big shot, attributes that attracted interest from NHL teams after his solid junior hockey career. He moves the puck well and is getting better in his zone, though work still needs to be done. Additional experience should help him improve his all-around game.''

With over 100 games of NHL experience, he's the best option that went through waivers in the last week. Could he be the Canucks' man?
