The Hockey insider Eliotte Friedman first broke the news that Garland and his new agent had asked the Canucks for permission to talk to other teams to facilitate a trade:
''There is word this afternoon that Vancouver has granted Conor Garland permission to talk to other teams about a potential trade. Tight cap situation, see if there's a better fit around the NHL.''
The Canucks have been trying to trade Garland away for about a year, but now everything regarding the Canucks' number 8 is heating up. The latest development suggested that the Canucks would even be keen to retain parts of his salary on the remainder of a contract. Will they be having?
