As good as the Canucks have been this season, they would love to add some help on the blueline.

The Canucks have been widely rumoured to be interested in available defensemen from the Calgary Flames and elsewhere, but what they would be willing to trade is unclear.

On the Sekeres and Price podcast on Thursday, Canucks reporter Patrick Johnson said winger Nils Hoglander could be part of those discussions.

Johnson said he could be a piece, but likely not the only piece in a trade for an impact D.

You're seeing enough from Hoglander that there's a useful part there... but no, Hoglander on his own is not going to make something like that work I don't think,
Johnson said.
He is relatively inexpensive but whether he's anything more than a 4th line energy guy remains to be seen.

Johnson says the team would like to add a big, physical defenseman similar to Carson Soucy, who the Canucks will be without for 6-8 weeks.

If Hoglander continues to play like he did in Calgary on Thursday night, noticeable all over the ice and adding his 4th goal of the season, he could be a more valuable piece to a trade partner.
