LATEST | Insider says Pettersson still not ready to talk extension with Canucks
While it doesn't come completely as a surprise, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is still holding off on talking about a new contract with the organization.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared the news on his 32 Thoughts podcast on Monday, saying that Pettersson has made it clear that he's still not ready.
"He has made it very clear he's not yet ready to talk contract with Vancouver." Friedman said.
Pettersson, 25, said before the 2023-24 season began that he didn't want to begin discussions anytime soon in order to focus on preparing for the new campaign. But now that we're almost half-way through the schedule, it's beginning to worry some fans, while some aren't too concerned and believe a deal will get done when the timing is right, such as after the season concludes.
The Sundsvall, Sweden native is having a fantastic season so far and is well on his way to his second-consecutive 100-point season. In 39 games, Pettersson has 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists), two penalty minutes and is a plus-13.
Pettersson and the Canucks will continue their road trip in New York City at Madison Square Garden on Monday night as they take on the Metropolitan Division-leading Rangers at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.
